IMSS

As expats you can enroll with IMSS through family Insurance. It is a health insurance that can be voluntarily incorporated by any person and their families

·The insurance covers medical, surgical, pharmaceutical, hospital and maternity assistance.
·In the case of maternity, care is given during pregnancy, childbirth and post partum.
·There are pre-existing diseases that prevent their incorporation, conditions with certain waiting periods, as well as some exclusions.
To enroll with this Insurance you need to be either an temporary or permanent resident.

PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE

There are numerous, recognized private insurance providers in Mexico, several with offices in Merida.

Any expat under 65 can apply for private insurance and all insurance companies offer different levels of coverage at different rates. Different acceptance and eligibility criteria may apply.

If you are over 65, you can still purchase health insurance, but you will have to pass a general health exam to be accepted.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

If you are a snowbird or you are a part time resident in Merida, 6 months or under, you can purchase a private travel Insurance. Benefits:

·Payment directly to hospitals in Merida (The insured does not incur any expenses).
·Acceptance ages up to 75 years, and other plans up to 86 years.
·First emergency care for pre-existing diseases.
·Includes coverage in case of covid.
·Coverage for up to 6 months.
